DLC: January Goals Assessment
So here were my stated goals on January 1, with February 1 assessment in bold/italics beneath each:
1. Lose 1 lb per week in January; weigh 194 lbs by Feb. 1st by counting calories and running at least 4x per week. January starting weight: 198
Feb 1: Wow…maybe I underestimated. I’m at 189 now, for a loss of 9 lbs!
2. Only consume ONE soda per week. (I had kicked it before, and it is trying to creep back) I’ve been having at least 3-4 sodas per week (pretty much every time at a restaurant)
Feb 1: I had soda all of 2 times! Like Tony Horton (from P90X) says: “Drink your water, people!”
3. Track all calories consumed and burned on MyFitnessPal. So far I have tracked every calorie consumed burned (since 12/28/11).
Feb 1: Nailed it. Have logged in 37 days in a row now. Like G.I. Joe says: “Knowing is half the battle!”
4. Do a minimum of 15 minutes of exercise every single day. As of now, my routine has been to run 2-3x per week, with no other activity on the “off” days.
Feb 1: On January 1, I hadn’t figured out my half-marathon training plan yet, and once I did, realized the importance of rest days. I run 4x a week, cross-train on 1 day, and rest the other 2. I hope that doesn’t sound like a cop-out. I definitely am exercising WAY more minutes per week than pre-2012!
5. Don’t miss a day of the 3650 Challenge - read 10 chapters of the Bible every day following Professor Horner’s Reading Plan. Prior to starting the plan on 1/1/12, I was getting 5 or 6 days a week of reading a few verses based off of the Daily Bread book.
Feb 1: In running terms, this would be called a bonk. Complete failure. I got a little behind mid-month, and after that, each day was piling on the “behind” chapters. I got so torqued about how much I needed to do to get caught up that I caved under the pressure. I wish I had thought of running analogies sooner, because now that I think about it. If I miss a scheduled 3-mile run, and have a 4-mile the next day, I would never consider running 7 miles to “make up” the run I missed. I would just do the 4 and move on. So starting with February 1, I’m just going to not worry about yesterday, focus on what I can do today, and move on.
(Edit: I don’t know what the frick is going on with Tumblr formatting. I had to put like four spaces between each section just for it to show one space, and even then, it still isn’t separating the Jan. goal from the Feb. assessment. And it won’t bold #1 - I don’t get it and it’s super annoying.)
