Time Trial And Error
My dad (who coached college cross-country for 30+ years) approved of my Hal Higdon training plan, and suggested I do a 1-mile time trial, to push myself and do 1 mile as fast as possible. I had intended to go to the public high school down the street to use their track, but apparently they have it fenced off and locked gates. =/
Plan B had me drive to a trail that I know is paved and fairly level, although nothing around here is “flat”. It was also well after sunset and getting downright chilly, with me in naught but my shorts and t-shirt.
Anywho…I was almost half-way through the mile, when I checked on Endomondo to find out my distance. Instead of the three fields telling me the time elapsed/distance/pace time, all three fields just showed the pace time. Frustrated, I slowed to a walk for a minute or so as I fiddled with the settings and eventually got a distance reading. I was at 0.52, so I just turned around and went back the way I came.
My average mile pace for the last month or so has been around 12:30-12:45, so I can’t be too upset about nailing a 10:18! I think I might’ve had a shot at breaking 10:00 with ideal conditions, but that’s okay, when I re-do the time trial in a month or so, I expect to crush that number! :)
